They come out with new versions of their software frequently, at least once a year. I realize it's an older piece of software, but I'm not expecting it to have support for 3-D Blu-ray discs or anything like that. The software costs $40 to upgrade or $80 for a full version. I had to download the trial of PowerDVD 11 to play the disc, for which the trial only lasts 30 days. I rented the new Star Wars: Episode III (just now getting around to seeing it, turns out I didn't miss anything) Blu-ray from Netflix and when I popped it into my Blu-ray drive, PowerDVD 7 Blu-ray edition informed me that there was no disc in the drive.

I've discovered as of yesterday that Cyberlink, the authors of PowerDVD software (which comes as an OEM version with many Blu-ray drives for computers), has ceased to update older versions of PowerDVD for the copy protection on the latest Blu-ray discs.
